Victoria's Artist Statement
In order for an artist to produce exceptional work, there must be experience. That does not mean someone who has been painting for years, nor does it mean producing films since the age of 7. No, life experiences, that is, allows people to think more creatively and diversely. Experience allows the artist to be prepared for any given audience he or she has, and to show perspectives that are not limited to a particular group alone. Growing up in one of the busiest cities in the world, I was privileged enough to experience moments others would only dream of accomplishing. However, I still have a long way to go; more places to be, more people to see. I have experienced love, heartache, laughter, and cries. Stress, ease, and the anticipation to make a difference. I understand what it is like to be lost and to feel insecure, but I also know what it’s like to be found spiritually. As a Christian, being able to experience the overflow of peace and love that God has is beyond inspiring. Through my artistic work, I seek to provide spiritual life experiences, good and bad, that is appropriate to people of all backgrounds and beliefs. I was always told as a young person that a spiritual life is an uncomfortable one. God places people in uncomfortable scenarios, one of which being a faithful person placed in a world of hate. Additionally, being an artist/ filmmaker in a world of non-believers, it only inspires me further to produce encouraging pieces that challenge the social norm. In the past, I have created a diverse variety of artwork; including short films, paintings, and drawings. My physical artwork ranged from landscapes to surrealistic urban life. My digital pieces, however, either presented serious, internal thoughts, or were created for witty purposes. I look forward to seeing how much of my creative skills can be applied in this course when creating new projects.
